Bible Animation - Matthew 7:22

My Roles: Design, Animation, & SFX

Voiceover : Roberto Reyna, Jr.

As someone who loves reading the Bible, I often come across verses or stories that haven’t been animated or visually represented. So, I decided to create an animation myself.

The verse I chose is Matthew 7:22-23:

"Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’"

It’s a tough verse, but one of my favorites. It reminds us that calling God “Lord” isn’t enough—He looks deeper into your heart.

One thing that really excited me about this verse was designing the opening shot. When I imagined “…in that day,” I pictured it as the day of Jesus’ second coming, with humanity walking up to the golden gates of heaven. To get the imagery just right, I sketched a few thumbnails that I felt would really capture the essence of that moment.

By this point, I had already settled on using blue, gold, and red in the palette. But after some tweaking, I decided to focus on blue and gold as the main colors.

I wanted blue to dominate most of the scene, with heaven's elements, like the kingdom and the gate, standing out in gold. This left the characters in various shades of blue. Initially, I considered giving Jesus a golden skin tone, but I didn’t want to stray from the message that, while He is God, He was also fully human.

Initially, I planned to design this animation for both wide and vertical formats. But after some thought, I decided it would work best as a vertical reel, especially given its short 30-second duration.
